The “Women for Peace and Security” project targets women in Armenia's border communities, supporting them to step into leadership roles and actively participate in implementing the future peace agreement by enhancing their understanding of UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security and its localization. By strengthening their knowledge, leadership, and civic engagement skills, the initiative will ensure that women’s perspectives, needs, and solutions are heard and integrated into shaping the post-conflict period. This approach will culminate in a consolidated set of recommendations for national stakeholders on peace implementation priorities from a gender perspective, giving women a tangible role in shaping policy and local action.
Key Components
- Community meetings, needs assessments, and consultations in six border communities.
- A three-day study visits to Yerevan for 24 participants, including:
- Meetings with relevant structures of government and international institutions such as the MFA, UN Office, EUMA, as well as NGOs and national experts;
- Capacity-building training to strengthen skills contributing to peacebuilding processes;
- Development of tailored action plans to enhance women’s roles and impact in peace implementation processes at the local level.
- A series of community-led follow-up discussions and strategy development sessions in target communities.
- Development of a document summarizing the challenges and recommendations identified at the community level, to be presented to decision-making bodies, international structures, other stakeholders, and relevant communities.
Expected Results
- Active and effective communication and cooperation established between women from border communities, whose knowledge and experience will contribute to decision-making on peace implementation at the local level;
- Increased meaningful involvement and impact of women in peacebuilding and security processes at the local level;
- An outcome document containing findings and validated conclusions from the core participants, providing recommendations and a replicable methodology for developing peacebuilding agendas in other communities based on an inclusive approach and the active participation of women.
